Frequently asked questions
What is lorem ipsum text?
Lorem ipsum is placeholder text designers use to fill layouts before the real copy is ready. It mimics the rhythm and word-length distribution of real prose, so you can judge spacing, type, and layout without readable words pulling your eye.
How many words should a lorem ipsum paragraph have?
There's no strict rule — classic lorem ipsum paragraphs run about 60–80 words, which reads like a typical paragraph of real copy. This generator lets you dial in an exact word, sentence, or paragraph count so the filler matches your design precisely.
Where can I use lorem ipsum text?
Anywhere you need realistic-looking filler: website wireframes, app mockups, print layouts, slide decks, and CMS previews. Swap it out for real copy before anything ships — placeholder text in a live design is the classic rookie tell.
Is lorem ipsum real Latin?
Not quite — it's scrambled Latin from Cicero's "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum," mangled since the 1500s so it no longer parses as real sentences. That's the point: it looks like language without distracting readers with meaning.
Can I use lorem ipsum in a published design?
You can, but you probably shouldn't — readers notice filler in a finished product. Use it to design and prototype, then replace it with real copy before launch. The generator above makes exact-length filler so the real copy drops in cleanly.
